Prophetic Vision 8th August 2021

I had a vision of a finger writing something on the wall and I heard the words "The writing is on the wall."

This phrase means that what is coming is obvious and clear and we have been warned.

Despite the fact that many can neither see nor understand it, the writing is most definitely on the wall, it's presence cannot be denied and it’s meaning cannot be ignored.

God then lead me to Daniel chapter 5, where Daniel was called upon to interpret the meaning of the writing that mysteriously appeared on the wall, which was written by the fingers of a human hand.

What followed and the reasons why, present a stark reminder of the consequences of bowing to idols and desecrating God's temple.

Items Dedicated To The Lord Used To Praise Idols

King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them.

While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple of God, so that they might drink from them.

So they brought in the gold goblets and the king and his nobles and his wives and concubines drank from them.

As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.

Instead of praising God for everything that they had, they praised worthless idols.

The Writing On The Wall

Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall and the king watched the hand as it wrote.

His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his legs became weak and his knees were knocking.

The king summoned the enchanters, astrologers and diviners and told them that whoever read the writing and told him what it meant would be clothed in purple, have a gold chain placed around his neck, and would be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

All the king’s wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or tell the king what it meant.

So King Belshazzar became even more terrified and his face grew more pale.

The Queen Called For Daniel

The queen came into the banquet hall and told them not to be alarmed for there was a man who had the spirit of the holy gods in him and that in the time of the king's father, he was found to have insight, intelligence and wisdom.

King Belshazzar's father had appointed Daniel chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners because he also had the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems.

The queen told the king to call for Daniel and he would tell them what the writing meant.

So Daniel was brought before the king, and the king asked him to read the writing and tell him what it meant, offering him the same incentive as he offered the wise men.

Daniel told the king that he may keep his gifts and give his rewards to someone else, but nevertheless, he would read the writing for him and tell him what it meant.

God Gives Everything & Also Takes Away

Daniel told the king that the Most High God gave his father Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty, greatness, glory and splendour.

Because of the high position He gave him, all the nations and peoples of every language dreaded and feared him.

Those the king wanted to put to death, he put to death; those he wanted to spare, he spared; those he wanted to promote, he promoted; and those he wanted to humble, he humbled.

But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory.

He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.

King Belshazzar Set Himself Up Against The Lord

Daniel told the king he had not humbled himself, though he knew all that, and instead, he had set himself up against the Lord of heaven.

He had the goblets from His temple brought to him, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank wine from them.

He praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand.

But he did not honour the God who holds in His hand his life and all his ways.

Therefore He sent the hand that wrote the inscription "mene, mene, tekel, parsin".

The Meaning of The Writing on The Wall

Mene meant that God had numbered the days of his reign and brought it to an end.

Tekel meant he had been weighed on the scales and found wanting.

Parsin meant that his kingdom was divided and given to the Medes and Persians.

At Belshazzar’s command, Daniel was clothed in purple, a gold chain was placed around his neck, and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain, and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom (Daniel 5:1-30).

Bowing Down To The gods of Man, Medicine, Money & Material Things

Idols can take many forms but they represent bowing down to anything that we believe provides comfort that is other than God, worshipping the created things instead of the Creator.

This includes man, medicine, money and material things.

Everything that is of true value is provided by God and none of these things can save us, only God saves.

Putting your unquestioning trust in anything other than God is the road to ruin.

Only God gives and only God takes away.

Face To Face With God

When our hearts become arrogant and hardened with pride, we are deposed from our positions and stripped of our glory.

Our days are numbered and our lives are judged.

If we are found to be lacking, we will be dealt with accordingly.

There will come a time in everyone’s lives when we are face to face with our Creator, and there will be no escape.

We need to turn to Him for all things, recognising that He is the Source of everything, and humble ourselves before Him.

We Are Here To Learn

We will not live on this earth forever, we are here for a short time, to learn how to love and to be refined in the fire.

We are all going to die, this is an inescapable fact and an irrefutable truth, it’s how we live that counts.

Can we be loving, peaceful and kind to ourselves and to others?

Can we accept our mortality with peace and grace without forcing others to bend to our will?

Can we trust God to deliver us without betraying ourselves, without betraying one another and without fear of the consequences of not bowing down to man?

Honouring God

There is only one God.

Israel's King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty, He is the First and He is the Last; apart from Him there is no God (Isaiah 44:6).

All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless, they will be brought down to terror and shame (Isaiah 44:9-11).

The Lord Almighty is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty He will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life (Revelation 21:6).

Let us honour the one true God, the Creator of the heaven and the earth and everything in between, and let us bring glory to His name.

The Mountains Will Fall

The writing is on the wall for all those who set themselves against God, becoming His enemy.

God has numbered the days of their reign and will bring it to an end.

They will be weighed on the scales and found wanting.

Their kingdom will be divided and given to others.

We must pray for wisdom, insight and understanding, that we may come to know the living God, letting go of lifeless idols, worshipping the Creator, not the created, and in this way, we will be blessed.
